I am so excited to launch this podcast because my goal is to uncover the mysteries around franchise ownership. I want to share my franchise experience so I can save you some time, money and hard knocks.
I'm a season entrepreneur who built and operated a highly successful boutique accounting firm which I sold to a global financial institution in 2009. I subsequently acquired and operated a national franchise for five years that unfortunately, was not as successful. However, I gained a wealth of knowledge about what it takes to be a successful franchisee.
In this first episode, I share my top "aha moments” for me after I purchased my franchise interest. The courting process with a franchisor is similar to a first date. The franchisor puts its best foot forward and presents a prospective franchisee with all the great things about owning its franchise. The cons may be glossed over or even omitted entirely. So, the bottom line is I didn’t get a true representation of the franchise until months after I signed on the dotted line. Even then, I didn’t learn the entire story. It took years to uncover the full story.
